Hosted Desktop/Application Service Offering
NEOnet is in the final stages of a negotiating pricing with Citrix for our new hosted application and hosted desktop service. As we move forward toward online testing and BYOD becomes more prevalent, the apparent need for a unified education workspace for students and staff, despite what device they are on, becomes painfully obvious. The goal should be the same look and feel and the same access no matter where the student or staff member is or what device they are on. This anyplace working environment for students and staff can be accomplished with a hosted desktop and application platform like Citrix. NEOnet will be putting together the final pricing model for our hosted desktop and hosted application service in the coming weeks. We will also be discussing the solution in depth at our next Technology Advisory Committee meeting on March 7th. If you cannot make that meeting or need additional details please contact Christopher Zolla zolla[at]neonet[dot]org.
We have been diligently working on the slow internet speed issues you have been experiencing lately and we currently have a plan in place to resolve the issues. Earlier in the year we received reports of slow internet speeds and as a result we re-engineered our firewall to help balance the internet circuits more efficiently. We also added 200Mbit of additional bandwidth to compensate for the increased utilization. This seemed to resolve the issue for a short period of time, but since then that bandwidth seems to have been consumed as quickly as it was added. In an effort to continue to resolve the speed issues we have also purchased an additional 100mbit of bandwidth as well as installed a packet shaping device called Exindia. The Exindia appliance gives us a very granular look at the data we are sending and receiving and will allow us to write policies that will give preference to important educational related traffic. We are demoing this appliance to see if it would be a good fit for our consortium in the future. We will continue to closely monitor the progress of the issue and provide status updates on a regular basis. If at any time you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact Christopher Zolla zolla[at]neonet[dot]org.
