The next Technology Advisory Committee Meeting is Thursday December 6th, 2012 at 9:00am.
Over the past month, we have been working to alleviate some Internet speed issues our customers have been experiencing. In an effort to mitigate these speed issues, we have added an additional 100mbit of bandwidth to our primary ISP and reconfigured our network so it better load balances between both of our ISP’s. While these changes both improved browsing speed and have shown positive results on bandwidth tests, the rate at which we can download files does not seem to be as consistent as we have experienced in the past. Download speeds seem to start at a high rate but then dwindle over time, even after hours without heavy traffic loads on the network. The next step in the troubleshooting process is to work with our ISP’s to see if we can determine where the issue might be located. We have already opened a ticket with Oarnet and are attempting to shed some light on this situation. We will continue to provide feedback via the monthly Technology Advisory Committee meetings, as well as this newsletter. Network Changes in October
We have successfully removed the legacy 18.104.22.168 subnet from our network, eliminating the old DNS servers and changing the IP address of our fiscal server. Thank you to everyone for support during this initiative and making it a success. We will continue to monitor the firewall for any remaining traffic we see hitting the old DNS servers and send periodic emails out letting you know what hosts might still be accessing them.
IP Fax Service
NEOnet is in the process of acquiring some additional phone lines to accommodate hosting our IPFax solution for any district who is interested in participating. In the past, you had to be a customer on our IP Telephony system in order to participate so that the inbound and outbound faxes could take place over the school owned PRI. With the acquisition of the phone lines here at NEOnet, we can start offering the IP Fax solution for customers who do not yet participate in the IP telephony service, but would like to leverage our IP Fax solution. Our IP Fax solution is easy to use and completely eliminates the need for any local fax machines and phone lines. This not only saves money by reducing school district costs for phone lines and faxing hardware, but also increases productivity by drastically reducing the time involved with sending and receiving faxes.
