April 2019- Technology Integration Update

As this school year comes to a close, it is valuable to reflect upon the past year and ask some important questions. We all know that classroom technology is not a fad, it is an ever-changing skillset that all teachers should strive to obtain. Time and time again we have seen improved student achievement, engagement, creativity, and mastery of content when the teacher not only knows how to use technology, but INTEGRATE it with their tried and true teaching strategies. Here are some of those important questions to help reflect:

  • In the past year, have teachers learned how to truly INTEGRATE, not just learn how to use G Suite or other web apps?
  • In the past year, have teachers learned about new and emerging technology that can infatuate learners with traditionally difficult or stale content?
  • In the past year, have teachers learned how to truly REDEFINE their teaching strategies with new equipment, hardware, Chromebooks, iPads, or the Makerspace that the school invested in?
  • In the past year, how have teachers used technology to help their students prepare for next year, or the next five years, or the next ten?

After reflecting upon the past year, think about what your goals are for next year. Those same questions from earlier can apply here. Whatever those goals may be, the Technology Integration Team from NEOnet is always happy to help plan, implement, and reflect upon a school’s classroom technology integration needs. That can take shape with traditional in-person or online professional development, individualized one-on-one technology integration coaching, or short informal sessions before, during, or after school. In one of our districts that we serve, we are preparing a small cohort of teachers for the Google Certified Educator Exams. For this group, we meet just once a week right after school, no substitutes needed, no headache of planning a large conference. In another one of our districts, we are in the process of planning some days where we are “on-call” and in their building for teachers to come discuss technology integration during any free periods they may have. We are Technology Integration Specialists, which means that we understand technology AND how to integrate it into virtually any classroom. If you are interested in becoming a member or if you are already a member of Technology Integration Services and would like more information on ways that you may utilize the Technology Integration Team, please reach out to JC Williams or Dan Niessen at williams[at]neonet[dot]org or dniessen[at]neonet[dot]org. We look forward to being an active partner in the successful integration of technology in your school!
