Content Filtering:

NEOnet will be offering two content filters for the next school year, Lightspeed and Securly.  Schools that are interested in moving to Lightspeed should have started a trial by the end of March and must make a decision on their product selection by the end of April.  The cost of each product will be as follows:

Lightspeed 2.10/student

Securly 1.10/student

The prices could potentially come down prior to billing, but those are the costs schools should plan for, worst case.

Firewall Audits and Network Scans:

You should already be receiving our annual firewall audits.  The goal is to return those by April 9th so we can verify the security of the district's external resources for the new audit period.  We will also be starting our weekly DHS vulnerability scans.  These scans will identify vulnerabilities on the outside of our network for district-owned resources.  Each Technology Coordinator will receive these weekly scans to review and address.  These vulnerabilities will usually require either patching to software, or in certain circumstances, closing access to older resources that cannot be updated.  We will be discussing this in-depth at our April  Technology Advisory Committee Meeting.

Server and Storage Infrastructure

NEOnet is in the process of replacing all our existing Server and Storage infrastructure on our planned five-year replacement cycle.  The Server and Storage subcommittee will be meeting on April 14th to review all three proposals being presented to NEOnet.  Following those vendor presentations, the committee will meet to discuss the content and bring a recommendation to the Board of Directors.  If you are interested in participating in those presentation on April 14th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, please reach out to zolla[at]neonet[dot]org.
