The next Technology Advisory Committee Meeting is Thursday September 1st, 2016 at 9:00am.
We have successfully upgraded to our new 9300 series firewall as of August 3rd. The new platform allows the NEOnet network to push past the 10Gbit boundaries and can grow to meet the demands of tomorrows bandwidth needs. The 9300 platform not only introduces virtualization into the security strategy, it also allows next generation firewall applications to run on the same physical hardware. We will continue to develop our security strategy as the year progresses, looking at new technologies to focus on a proactive security model.
Server and Storage Upgrade
The conversion to new servers and SSD storage was completed early this month. The consortium is now running on state of the art Cisco UCS servers powered by 110TBs of Nimble SSD storage on the backend. This design deployed at both the primary site and the DR site allows for additional disaster recovery capabilities; thereby, reducing the risk of extended loss from any unforeseen incident. It also allows for sub millisecond response times all applications hosted in our consortium cloud.
Call Manager 11.5
In the near future we will begin our journey toward upgrading our existing voice servers to version 11.5. This transition will allow us to begin our migration to a new distributed administration tool and eliminating the current iManage solution. The biggest road block in the migration is the deprecation of certain phone models. A list of phones that are no longer supported can be found at this URL http://tinyurl.com/hogakjy. Districts who have these phones should begin putting together a strategy to replace them over the next year. We will migrate voice customers over to the new platform one district at a time if they meet the supported phone criteria. Any districts who have not replaced unsupported phones will remain on the current cluster until a time in which they have 100% supported hardware to make the migration. We expect to have all the migration ready districts done by the end of this school year.
Lightspeed 3.X Upgrade
In November of 2016 we will be upgrading to the latest 3.X version of Lightspeed. This upgrade will be done during the Thanksgiving break to avoid any disruption in filtered internet while students are in session. The load balancing switches will be placed into bypass mode so that the upgrade can done during the day, without impacting network connectivity. A WebEx presentation will be scheduled in November to give all users a look at the new interface. No policy or categories will need to be adjusted as a result of this upgrade.
